Pirates & TTM set up Nedbank Cup throwback

As past winners of the Nedbank Cup, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila and Orlando Pirates will headline this weekend’s list of fixtures in the popular showpiece, while a number of Motsepe Foundation Championship sides will hope to cause major upsets.
Last season’s finalists, Pirates, will take on 2020/21 Nedbank Cup winners Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday afternoon in what is billing up to be a keenly anticipated tie in the tournament’s Round of 32.

The former PSL outfit lifted the trophy back in 2021, after they bagged a 1-0 win over Chippa United in the final at the Free State Stadium under the tutelage of well-known English coach Dylan Kerr.
Pirates, on the other hand, suffered a 2-1 loss against bitter rivals Kaizer Chiefs in last year’s final, as the Glamour Boys celebrated at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
The Buccaneers currently lead the way in the Betway Premiership, while they stand the chance of bagging a third Nedbank Cup title in four seasons.
Elsewhere, Highbury United will Sekhukhune United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday afternoon. As it stands, Babina Noko occupy fifth position in the Betway Premiership, while Highbury are in 11th place in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
On Sunday, former Nedbank Cup kings TS Galaxy will face Marumo Gallants at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium as the Rockets hope to emulate their showings from the 2018/19 campaign.
Under Dan Malesela at the time, TS Galaxy walked away with a 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs in the final after Zakhele Lepasa scored a dramatic 92nd-minute winner at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on 18 May, 2019.

In another top flight clash this weekend, Siwelele and Richards Bay FC will shake hands at the Dr Molemela Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Siwelele battled to yield positive results in the Betway Premiership during the last couple of weeks and head into their cup assignment on a run of three consecutive draws in 11th place.
Richards Bay will likewise hope to do better in the cup competition, given their Betway Premiership run of four draws and one victory in their last five matches.
Also, in one of the lesser highlighted fixtures in the Round of 32, FC Cardinals and Jacksa Spears will go toe-to-toe at the Goble Park Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Both clubs were drawn from the SAFA Divisions, with Cardinals hailing from the Free State while Jacksa Spears will represent the Northern Cape province.
