Marumo Gallants secured their ticket to the semifinals of the Carling Knockout Cup after a dominant 4-0 win against Stellenbosch FC in the pouring rain at the Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium on Wednesday night.

Stellenbosch started the game on the front foot with Devin Titus creating the first attempt at goal for his side in the third minute.

With Titus’s effort going narrowly wide, Gallants hung on and preserved their clean sheet.

The Cape Winelands side once again came close to scoring in the seventh minute, this time through Langelihle Phili, who did well to win the ball in the area before letting off a shot that was deflected out for a corner.

Gallants grew into the match midway through the first half and opened the scoring via Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo, who capped off a swift move en route to Stellies' goal.

Stellenbosch saw most of the ball toward the halftime break; however, Gallants did enough to see out the first 45 with their lead intact.

Following a rapid start to the subsequent half, the hosts doubled their advantage in the 52nd minute, as Ndlondlo added his name to the scoresheet once more after a clinical solo effort on the left flank.

Stellenbosch pressed and probed in search of an equaliser but did little to trouble the opposition backline after 60 minutes on the clock.

With around 15 minutes left, the rain belted down at the Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium in Mangaung while Gallants remained in full control of the tie.

Gallants ended the game with a flurry of attacks as Mpambaniso Monde added Gallants’ third goal in the 79th minute before Edgar Manaka joined in on the fun with a glancing header from a corner in the 86th minute.

Manaka’s header proved to be the final bit of action from the encounter as Gallants qualified for the semifinals of the Carling Knockout Cup.
