Ghana top group I and secure World Cup qualification
Ghana made sure to qualify for the 2026 Fifa World Cup by topping group I following a 1-0 win over Comoros in their final group stage assignment at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday night.
The Black Stars’ place at the top of the pile was aided by Mali’s 4-1 win over Madagascar, with the latter finishing six points adrift of the summit.
Ghana looked comfortable on the ball during the first 10 minutes at the Accra Sports Stadium, while Comoros showed early promise going forward. However, as the dust settled, both sides battled to create clear scoring chances in the first 20 minutes.

The Black Stars remained on the attack halfway through the first 45 minutes. However, the visitors proved to be a match for the popular African side.
There was no way through for Ghana yet, with around 35 minutes on the clock. Jordan Ayew carved out one of the best chances of the half after he attempted a mazy run into the area. However, the experienced forward was let down by a wayward finish.
The score remained 0-0 at the break as Ghana took their time in possession en route to goal.
Ghana commenced the second half on the front foot as their start was supplemented by a strike from Mohammed Kudus, who added his name to the scoresheet early on.

The home side were in full control of the game after taking the lead and stroked the ball around with confidence, with Comoros short of attacking ideas.
Not sitting back, Comoros actively searched for an equaliser as the second half aged and attempted to do so with neat passing on the edge of the Ghana area.
Nevertheless, Ghana managed to see the game out unscathed and at the same time, book their ticket to next year’s showpiece.
