SA Davis Cup team to host Morocco at Groenkloof Tennis Club

The Renault SA Davis Cup team will return to their happy hunting ground in Pretoria later this year when they face Morocco in a World Group II clash at Groenkloof Tennis Club in Pretoria on 13 and 14 September.
South Africa beat Nigeria 3-1 in the World Group II playoffs at the same venue in February, with Philip Henning, Kris van Wyk, and Alec Beckley putting up a superb all-round performance in the singles and doubles matches.
Returning to Group II, the SA squad will now go up against a strong Moroccan team who beat Zimbabwe 4-0 in a playoff tie in Harare in February.
The winners of the contest in Pretoria will play in the World Group I promotion playoffs, while the losing side will compete in the World Group II relegation playoffs.
The teams representing both nations will be announced closer to the event. South Africa currently sits at 58th on the Davis Cup rankings, while Morocco is placed 51st.
Tennis South Africa (TSA) General Manager, Anthony Moruthane said, "We are excited to host Morocco at the Groenkloof Tennis Club in Pretoria, a venue that has proven to be a stronghold for our team.
"The Renault Davis Cup squad delivered an incredible display in their victory against Nigeria earlier this year, and we believe they will bring the same fighting spirit against a Moroccan side.
“This tie is crucial as it presents an opportunity to advance to the World Group I promotion playoffs, and we encourage all tennis fans to come out and support the team.
"The home crowd can make a significant difference, and we look forward to an exciting weekend of world-class tennis in Pretoria,” added Moruthane.
