Orlando Pirates made a significant statement in the DStv Diski Challenge this past weekend, reclaiming the top position in the league. Pirates came back from a goal down to defeat Mamelodi Sundowns 5-1 on Saturday at Tuks Stadium. This impressive victory allowed them to retain the No 1 spot, with a total of 21 points after nine games.

All eyes were on these two giants as they enjoyed a strong start to the new season, and their clash did not disappoint. Sundowns went into halftime leading 1-0, thanks to a goal from Xavier Jodamus.

However, in the second half, Pirates turned the tables with an impressive performance, featuring goals from Oscar Gqeke, Vempi Masilela, Joy Manana, and a brace from Seth Green. Another highlight of the weekend was the match between Durban City and Kaizer Chiefs, held at Chatsworth Stadium.

Amakhosi failed yet again to collect maximum points as they were held to a 1-1 draw by the Citizens. The draw saw them extending their winless run to seven matches since the season started.

Last season's runners-up Stellenbosch FC hammered Marumo Gallants 3-0 to keep their chase at the top close, with Keanan Johannesen scoring a hat-trick.
