As the race for automatic promotion to the PSL rages on, new MFC leaders Kruger United face the tough task of remaining at the top of the pile when they meet Highbury on Sunday afternoon.

Kruger jumped into first position during their most recent league outing after securing a 2-1 win over Lerumo Lions on Wednesday afternoon.

In turn, Kruger atoned for their damaging 4-0 loss against Casric Stars on 20 March, taking their tally to 43 points from 23 games played so far. Overall, Kruger recorded three wins, one draw and one defeat in their last five league fixtures.

Not far behind is Milford FC, who sit in second place, two points away from Kruger United. Milford could only manage a 1-1 draw with Casric Stars in their last game, gathering 41 points in the campaign.

Milford are thus scheduled to take on Gomora United on Saturday, with the latter languishing at the bottom end of the table. Gomora will enter this weekend’s fixture in 13th on 24 points, six points ahead of the drop zone.

Also, in the race for automatic promotion, Cape Town City will face a tricky test in the form of Upington City on Sunday as they currently occupy third place on the log.

The Citizens climbed up the table over the last couple of months and last recorded a narrow 1-0 victory over Black Leopards on Tuesday.

Sitting on 40 points, City are just three points behind log leaders Kruger United as they hope to improve on their record of two wins, two draws and one loss in their previous handful of Motsepe Foundation Championship games.

Then, Baroka will hope to overcome their three-match losing run when they face Leicesterford City on Saturday afternoon. Baroka are currently in last position on the table, six points away from safety, while Leicesterford last recorded two consecutive draws in 12th place.
