Milford became the final team to book their ticket into the Betway Premiership for next season following a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Magesi in their final PSL Promotion-Relegation Playoff tie at the Seshego Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Following a gruelling round-robin mini-league during the last couple of weeks, Milford reigned supreme as they finished on seven points in first place, two points ahead of second-placed Magesi, with the latter set to compete in the Motsepe Foundation Championship next season.

It was all Magesi during the early exchanges of the encounter as seen with Mcedi Vandala and Reagan Van Der Ross’ shots at the Milford goalkeeper in the fourth minute.

Moments after Van Der Ross attempted to break the deadlock from range, Vandala soon followed through with his shot inside the area missing the target.

Magesi continued to see more of the ball early on, with Milford producing little threat going forward.

The home side managed to break the deadlock in the 14th minute through Edmore Chirambadare, who latched onto Van Der Ross’s cross with a timely header from the centre of the box.

The hosts continued to be the agressors throughout the first half and came close to doubling their advantage in the 27th minute after Chirambadare struck the woodwork with a shot from distance.

While Magesi dominated, Milford received a lifeline moments before the break after Lehlegonolo Mokone handled the ball in the penalty area, prompting the referee to point to the spot.

However, Cheswyn Philander squandered his side’s chances of finding a leveller as his saw his effort hit the bar.

Milford looked lively following the restart, providing Magesi with numerous problems going forward. The away side came close to getting on the scoresheet in the 55th minute after Olwethu Cele’s shot was blocked on the edge of the six-yard area following a corner situation.

With momentum on their side, Milford grabbed an equaliser shortly before the hour-mark after Menzi Chili found the back of the net with a left-footed strike from outside the area as he latched onto a headed pass by Bhekani Mthiyane.

Both Magesi and Milford battled to create any notable scoring opportunities leading up to the 80th minute mark and often fell short at the final hurdle.

As the clocked ticked down in Limpopo, Magesi intensified their search of a winner but failed to do so given Magesi’s stubborn defence.

Milford managed to hold and remained in first position on the playoff table.
