Gujarat Titans' captain, Shubham Gill, showed off his technical proficiency as he spirited his side to 54-1 after the Powerplay in their Indian Premier League match against the Punjab Kings at the New Chandigarh Stadium.

The Punjab Kings, who won the toss and elected to bowl first, allowed 35 runs in the first three overs.

Shreyas Iyer turned to Marco Jansen in the fourth over and the South African left-armer pumped the brakes on Gujarat's run rate.

Jansen accounted for Gill's opening partner, Sai Sudharsan, and conceded only two runs. The Proteas star ensured that Gujarat did not have a strong finish to the Powerplay by conceding a mere seven runs in the sixth over.

Gill, who took a liking to any bowler not named Marco Jansen, finished the first six overs on 28 runs from 16 balls.

His partner, Jos Buttler, was on 11 off nine deliveries.

Gujarat, who trail the Punjab Kings 3-2 in head-to-head contests, will be looking to build on the platform laid by their captain in their quest to level the scores.
