Delighted Magesi coach Allan Freese says his side have it all in their own hands to keep their Betway Premiership status when they host Milford in the last of the Premier Soccer League promotion-relegation playoffs on Saturday.

This after they forced a 1-1 draw in the penultimate playoff match against Cape Town City at the Athlone Stadium on Wednesday to move to four points from three matches and set up a decisive last game at Seshego on Saturday.

β€œWell, I couldn't have asked for something better. Last game at home,” enthused Freese afterwards.

Magesi must win that match at home to keep their top flight status while visitors Milford, who have six points from three games, need only a draw.

Magesi fought back from a goal down for the vital away point that ends Cape Town City’s hopes of promotion.

β€œWe let ourselves down a little bit going a goal towards the end of the first half but after the team talk in the change room, we made one change,” Freese explained.

β€œAn offensive change to go forward. And I think the guys played well when we came back in the second half, and we equalised.”

City had gone ahead in the 43rd minute through Therlo Moosa but Mcedi Vandala equalised early in the second half.

β€œWe tried to tie it up at the back, which I think we did, until the drama started,” added Freese, referring to the wild final minute at the end of eight minutes of stoppage time when City hit the crossbar and also saw Magesi cleared off the line.

β€œI think we let them come too deep into us and we didn't come out of the back quick enough to go and press them.”

Freese was irritated when referee Moreki Lekwapi added eight minutes of stoppage time.

β€œI wanted to know where the eight minutes came from. Really, the eight minutes was too much. They have that in the English football. We don't have eight minutes in the PSL. We have a maximum of five minutes.”

β€œBut I'm happy that we could defend properly. I'm happy that we didn't concede. They wanted to play with the wingers, so we stopped their crosses. So I think the strategy worked there.”

He said the team would be ready for Saturday despite a short turnover time.

β€œWell, we’ve got to calm the nerves and play like we played today, organise, stay compact. Don't be all over the show. That's how we must play.”
